The inspiration for this project was based on a clean, affordable, and adaptable layout which Health Based Building could base their new demonstration home in the South Island. The company, previous known as Hardie & Thompson, has been operating from their Edgeware site for more than 100 years, and decided that it would be the ideal location to educate the public on the health benefits of sustainable development. The team here at AP Design have always looked to go over and above the building code minimums and consider the breathable building approach as a large step in the right direction for healthy home environments.

The design for the demonstration home would incorporate the full system of breathable materials, have a modern look for the South Island market, offer flexibility through the life of the building, and be suitable for all ages from a young family to a retired couple with grandchildren. A mezzanine space was introduced within the gable roof space, and the original footprint was increased from 110m² to 120m² in total to allow for stairs and a slightly larger living space. Overall the project has been a great success and we are very please that we at AP Design could be an integral partner on this project.
